THE COMPOST AREA
AT THE BRUSH DISPOSAL SITE . . .

A composting pit is at the site. The pit area accepts non-brush items such as grasses and livestock manure. Local gardeners are allowed to remove the compost to use in their gardens.
The composting pit is located just inside of the brush dump entrance gate. When empty, the pit measures 30 feet by 30 feet by 4 feet deep, and will hold approximately 133 yards of compost material. A sloped ramp allows vehicles to back down into the pit to unload composting material.

At the time of this picture to the right, the pit was just over 50% full. A six inch layer of dirt had been spread over the top of about 70 cubic yards of grass and livestock manure. Additional material will be accepted until the pit reaches near full capacity. Then another layer of dirt will be spread, covering the entire area. The site was planned and graded to allow rain water run-off from the brush dump access road to keep the compost wet.

We are hoping to have finished compost ready by the spring planting season!

THE COMPOST AREA

The compost area – beginning stages.

The Brush Disposal Site was recently graded and divided into sections. Each section is approximately 300 feet long by 100 feet deep. Barrels partially full of water, are used as barricades to allow people to dump brush in specific areas, and to close off areas to be burned or have ash removal work performed.
